Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya

Sarat Chandra Chatterji’s classical and evergreen novel Devdas had been adapted several times in various languages. The first television adaptation of this popular novel was visualized by Vikas Gupta’s Lost Boy Productions. Harshad Arora was signed to play the lead role of Dev in Valentine’s Day special episode of Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya. The role of Pari, Dev’s childhood love, was played by Anita Hassanandani and Panchi Bora portrayed the role of Chandni, a courtesan who silently loved Dev. This episodic aired on February 13, 2015 on Zing TV channel.

The refreshing story was well written with a modern day setting and had an interesting twist in its climax. Harshad breezed on the screen as a foreign returned young boy who flirts and pursues his childhood sweetheart, Pari, only to lose her to another man in a moment of indecisive commitment. Devdas, an unrequited lover, soon found his way to alcohol and spent his remaining days with Chandni while reminiscing his love.

Devdas’ role had been previously played by many legendary actors that comparisons were bound to happen yet Harshad left his own mark with brilliant performance. His drunken scenes were the mellowed version and a very intriguing Dev came across the screen. For this period drama, Harshad perfected his look with suspenders and simple shirts. The on-screen chemistry with Anita was magical taking the audience through their smiles and tears as it was an emotion of their own. Harshad excelled in each and every scene including the silent ones where his eyes spoke louder than dialogues.

Dev was a far cry from Harshad’s other character, Zain. He not only fulfilled the viewers’ expectations but exceeded every moment of the episode. Harshad’s flair to execute emotional and romantic scenes with such tantalizing intensity left the viewers spellbound. It takes great strength to pull your audience in a whirlpool of such strong fervor in just a episode, and Harshad diligently did this, watching him act is simply magical.
